Defining reality requires shared assumptions and beliefs - in other words a shared scope.
To share a reality with others, we have to agree to share a similar scope, because it is the scope of our worldview that decides what information and facts are accepted as reality for any given individual.
Ultimately, two things define scope:
Where we put our focus and attention in each moment. Are we seeking conflict and criticism of others (I have done a lot of this!) or are we seeking creative allies and solutions (I have also done a lot of this in building business.)
The systemic rules for the flow of money and resources. Money and resources define the scope of most social and political conflict — even if it plays out in the public theater as an immigration or a healthcare debate.
Making matters more challenging, news agencies and politicians monetize our blame and conflict due to lack of resources for jobs or healthcare as a means to create …more conflict and blame — as if the overall rules for money and resources that they themselves create isn’t the foundation of the issue they are using to create blame and conflict.
It is for this reason that it is so important to reduce our exposure to “news” and “politics” in the traditional sense. As both “news” and politics” are engineered to command your attention to blame and conflict.
And as long we are focused on blame and conflict as the news agencies and politicians want us to be, it is impossible to create new rules for money and resources or find a shared scope for a shared reality. So even a momentary break from the “news” or the mentality of blame and is the first step in our process of finding a shared reality.
Dylan.
Great stuff, Dylan. When we pay attention, we are, quite literally, "paying" with our attention. It's our true currency. I'd rather pay US dollars to support worthy causes than get "free" access to the destructive forces you mention, which leave our "attention account" empty. I think many people who are waking up to this line of thinking. Looking forward to it!
